PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Welcome to week 6! Teachers and students are enjoying the return of regular school routines and we are pleased that we will be able to schedule some end of year activities and events.

Remembrance Day

On Thursday in our acknowledgement of Remembrance Day, we paused and reflected to commemorate our service men and women who died during wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. Each year on this day Australians observe one minute’s silence at 11 am, in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts.

During the morning, our school leaders addressed the significance of Remembrance Day and as a mark of respect we will observe one-minute silence in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts. Students also made paper poppies and learnt about what the poppy represents.

Semester Two Reports

In line with department guidelines, as a result of the extended time learning from home, the school will provide a simplified, written report to parents and carers about student learning in Semester Two. The report will describe student achievement on the learning covered during the reporting period, including the learning from home period and include the next steps in learning for English and Mathematics. There will be no grading of students using the five-point, A-E scale. Reports will be sent home on Tuesday, 14 December.

Check-in assessment

Over the next two weeks, Years 3-6 students will be participating in a reading and numeracy Check-in assessment.

The assessments can supplement existing school practices to identify how students are performing and to help teachers tailor their teaching more specifically to student needs.

The Check-in assessment includes two online assessments for students:

  • reading assessment
  • numeracy assessment

Each assessment is approximately 40 multiple choice questions.

Information has been sent home regarding the date classes will be completing the assessments.

Headphones are required for various aspects of the assessments. Any student who has not already brought in headphones to school, we ask that they bring a set of headphones on the day of their assessment.

School Leaders Timeline and Procedures

It gives me great pleasure to introduce our School Leadership nominees for 2022. We look forward to hearing their prepared speeches next week. I wish all our nominees the very best of luck during their election campaign.

Assemblies and End of Year Presentations

As we are operating on updated Level 3 settings for the rest of term, assemblies and presentations are allowed outdoors, with cohorts separated and physical distancing in place. Fully vaccinated visitors (including parents and carers) are only allowed to attend if completing a specific role (such as presenting) and at the invitation of the school.

Our regular assemblies will resume in student cohorts where students will be acknowledged with class and PBL awards.

We are currently finalising details of our Presentation Day Award ceremony and will communicate further information to our families next week.

KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION AND TRANSITION 2022

With updated guidelines for schools operating as Level 3 settings, we are now able to invite the incoming 2022 Kindergarten students to visit our school and become familiar with the setting before they begin school next year. Schools must ensure COVID-safe measures are in place during orientation and transition programs. We will be implementing the following COVID-safe practices and ask all parents and carers to observe our COVID-safe practices:

  • Staggered drop off and pick up times to limit the number of people on site and to reduce any queueing
  • Designated outdoor meeting place for parents and carers to check in when they are dropping off or picking up their child
  • Children and parents and carers will be in good health and free of any COVID-19 symptoms
  • Parents and carers will observe physical distancing wherever possible.

We are hosting three Transition to School sessions on the following dates:

  • Wednesday 17 November 2021
  • Wednesday 24 November 2021
  • Wednesday 1 December 2021

Parents and carers will be required to check in using the School Check-in QR code at the designated drop off area and observe social distancing. All parents and carers will receive an information pack with resources to help prepare their child for school in 2022 and we also encourage all parents and carers to subscribe to Schoolzine to receive up-to-date information regarding Kindergarten 2022.

Two Zoom Parent Information Sessions have also been organised to support all parents and carers with an opportunity to learn about school organisation and learning and wellbeing programs. These sessions will take place on:

  • Wednesday 17 November at 5:00pm (Session 1)
  • Wednesday 24 November at 5:00pm (Session 2)

Details of our Transition and Orientation programs has been emailed and mailed to families.
