Match: 7.55 pm Kick off Vs Vic Park Boys
Game History: This Season – Loss 3-0 (L3-0, L1-0)
Result: Loss 1-0
Game Comments: While it was as always, a disappointing loss (because all losses are) this one was somewhat expected. Having said that the performance we put in when compared to last week was phenomenally better. While the scoreline and result shows a loss there was a significantly improved spirited performance all around. Playing against the top team we always knew it was going to be hard to take the points but we played well and we had a number of chances to score also. Could have been a 3-3 shootout or a 10-3 loss so being a 1-0 loss isn’t too bad in perspective. They scored midway through the first half but no team really took the ascendancy at any stage. While we are still a mathematical chance for finals we need to win the 3 winnable games we have ahead to even sneak into 4th.
Notable mentions:
Goat – Great first game of the season, supported both ends well and definitely made an impact in defence.
V – The stalwart defender who wants to be a midfield, brought his pace to the flanks that had been missing.
Timbo – Ran his heart out, awe inspiring in defence, created a number of chances up front. Classic.
What made us look the part:
Support – While it clearly made us tired there wasn’t a noticeable moment when we didn’t have 2 defenders (eventually) or 2 attackers (eventually).
What made us not look the part:
Squad Depth – With a list of ring ins and a base squad of 8 we still couldn’t manage to have a sub leading into the game (with 2 ringers already).
Player rankings: Premier League Transfers (Ins)
Barnesy (Seydou Doumbi – Will have a lot of pressure on his shoulders if he isn’t able to produce magic quickly.) Out sore and with a holiday looming made the call to not risk injury.
Timbo (Jonjo Shelvey – Creative hard man to add depth to a squad struggling at the moment.) The everywhere man had nothing short of a pearler of a game (if you don’t consider the fact that he didn’t score). High ball fine has been paid out of his kitty buffer.
Timmy (Matt Miazga – Not sure how much action he will see but he has signed on for a bumpy ride.) Other than the one that snuck in had a relatively good game, came off his line well and caused headache for the opposition.
Henry (Wahbi Khazri – In for a scrap and a dog fight to make his name known around the world.) Out of the state for some reason, assumed work.
Toon (Emmanuel Emenike – A powerhouse ready to leave his mark on those in his wake.) Out late with other things on his horizon.
Deano (Steven Naismith – No doubt he has goals in him just needs to find his feet.) Settled nicely into the midfield after his week off and took on the opposition with every opportunity and with class too.
Goat (Oumar Niasse – Brings so much more to the table that some of the others on the list. Just what you need.) For his first run out in a long time clearly wasn’t showing the signs of any lack of fitness. Supported both ends well.
V (Andros Townsend – Clearly a talent to keep an eye on just needs to get the chances to show his worth.) Added and x-factor to the team wasn’t able to trouble the scorers but his impact running about the place we clear.
Memorable Moment: - Pav Of The Season – Should have, would have, could have but it just want to be. About halfway through the second half there was a patch of play that would have gone down in folk lore. Timbo received the ball in attack and seemingly instantaneously fired in an absolute cannon from what feels like just past the half way line, although im sure it was closer to the top of the box than that. The ball was travelling so quickly that it beat the keeper and smashed into the post, bouncing back underneath the keeper who was still diving from the initial shot and into his hand. A second earlier on the dive and the ball would have been in the back of the net off the keeper which would have put us back on level ground with time for either team to push on for the win, however it just wasn’t to be.
To look forward to:
