Jobs of the future are rapidly evolving, and children now are expected to be tech savvy, even if this doesn’t mean coding or programming. There are some easy ways to incorporate more technology in the classroom so students are comfortable with using and exploring the applications of technology in their lives.
It is also advised to have a ‘tech mentor’ on campus - a teacher who is comfortable using technology in the classroom and can be called upon to help others.
Make a written activity suitable for online
Classroom activities like writing articles, diary entries, and journaling can be slightly adjusted so students are writing online content like blog posts.
Blog posts have slightly different structures but still require careful planning and strong writing skills. Getting students to practice online writing skills will set them up for success in their careers and also introduces them to other industries. Take it one step further and suggest students start their own blog!
Write about technology as a topic
With all the written activities students undertake, why not use technology as a stand alone topic? Researching the industry and different facets of how technology works will expose students to the endless possibilities of working in tech.
Encourage multimedia presentations
We have all completed an assignment that needed a PowerPoint or Prezi to accompany the presentation. Why not encourage better visual and audio skills within the same assignment? Encourage students, and even give them bonus marks, if they include videos, gifs, and audio clips into their presentations.
Video content
Chances are you can find a classroom-friendly video on YouTube or Vimeo that supplements your lesson content. Using videos will also help students who are visual learners better engage with their learning.
Streaming webinars is another great way to engage students. Webinars can be found on a variety of topics, and often companies like Microsoft will stream content for students.
Technology is now an integral part of society and keeping students engaged and informed will only help them for the jobs of the future.
